The Presentation of the Virgin: The Dawn of Salvation
On this 21st of November, the Church venerates a mystery of total abandonment. According to venerable Tradition and the Protoevangelium of James, the saints Joachim and Anne, after suffering from sterility, led the little Mary, aged three, to the Temple of Jerusalem.
The Immaculate Conception climbed the steps alone, offering herself to the Most High with a supernatural maturity. The Temple of stone then welcomed the true living Tabernacle. As the liturgy emphasizes, there is a perfect symmetry between the life of the Mother and that of the Son: this feast is the prelude to the "Fiat" that would change the face of the world. Mary shows us the way of interior life and absolute fidelity.
Gospel: The House of Prayer Against the Den of Thieves
The Gospel of the day (Luke 19:45-48) shows us Jesus in a holy anger, driving out the merchants from the Temple. "My house shall be a house of prayer," thunders the Lord. Saint Thomas Aquinas reminds us that the Temple is an image of the Church: a haven of peace, not a den of thieves.
The Greek text emphasizes that the people were "hanging on his lips." Unlike the chief priests who were plotting, the crowd was captivated by divine Wisdom. It is for us to purify our hearts, temples of the Holy Spirit, of modern idols like money and power, in order to listen to the Word with the same fervor.
Current Events Viewed Through Tradition: Censorship and Hope
In our overview of this November 21st, truth often clashes with ideology:
- Ideological Censorship in Paris: The Mass for the repose of the soul of General Franco was canceled under pressure from the left. The Republic now forbids praying for those who saved Spain from Marxism, proving that secularism is applied selectively.
- The Church, Guardian of Knowledge: Fortunately, Rome is vigilant. A historic agreement has been signed between the Vatican Library and the BnF (French National Library) to save European heritage. The Church remains the mother of arts and letters.
- Social Misery: The report from Secours Catholique (Catholic Relief) is damning. 74% of assisted households live in extreme poverty. The modern state sacrifices the weakest, leaving Christian charity to make up for its shortcomings.
- Disney and the Family: A surprise at Disney! The short film Versa is being attacked by the woke because it dares to show a normal family, while the series Win or Lose reintroduces a prayer to the "Heavenly Father." A timid return to reality?
- The Blood of Martyrs: We honor the Mexican Cristeros, those heroes of "Viva Cristo Rey" in the face of Masonic tyranny, and we pray for our brothers in Nigeria, where Christians continue to be massacred in general indifference.
A Page of History: The Massacre of Avranches (1793)
Let us never forget the sacrifice of our fathers. On November 21, 1793, after the Battle of Dol, the Republicans entered Avranches. On the orders of the representatives of the Convention, they mercilessly shot the wounded Vendéans left in the hospital. The next day, 800 stragglers, sick and exhausted, were exterminated in the plain of Changeons. This massacre of "Republican Vengeance" reminds us of the price of fidelity.
