And it was upon returning home on August 5, 2009, after that pilgrimage to Lourdes, that everything changed. Sitting on the sofa, while her husband put away the wheelchair, she heard that voice again, soft, feminine, the same one she had perceived in the sanctuary's baths, the voice that had whispered to her three times:
"Do not be afraid."
But this time, the words were different. She heard:
"Tell him… call him."
Then, obediently, she called her husband:
"Antonio, come, something is happening!"
And there, she stood up. Without support. Without help. She walked. She turned around twice. Antonio, overwhelmed to see her standing, collapsed in tears. And they both wept, together, in an embrace of astonishment and joy. She was healed.
It was only sixteen years later, in 2025, that the Church would come to officially recognize the healing as the 72nd miracle of Lourdes. For Antonietta, this recognition is like a heavenly seal. But, in her heart, the true miracle had been sealed long ago:
"That night, my life changed. My faith took root even more deeply."
Even today, when she reads the Gospel and comes upon a passage relating a miraculous healing, she feels her body shiver:
"I know what that means… I have lived it."
Antonietta says the Blessed Virgin has become her Mother forever. Present in every decision, every moment of trial or joy, she has never abandoned her. "It is like a mother who never leaves her child."
And every year, she returns to Lourdes. "Lourdes is my home. If I cannot go, it is a true suffering. I return there no matter what." As if the Virgin were waiting for her. As if she were calling her.
This miracle serves as a reminder that Heaven is not deaf, and that the Virgin Mary continues to act with power in open hearts. Lourdes is not a museum of popular piety, but a living place of grace, healing, and encounters with Christ.
Antonietta did not ask for her own healing. She prayed for another. And it was in that silent offering that the Lord came to touch her. Here is a lesson in humility and surrender worth all the theories.
