It's official: on July 28 and 29, 2025, a rather particular jubilee will be held in Rome as part of the Holy Year. This jubilee is not for bishops, nor for priests, nor even for families. No. It is the Jubilee for "Catholic influencers", or, to use the Vatican's more accurate term, for "digital missionaries". And frankly? This is good news.
A Late Recognition... But a Welcome One
Let's be honest: for years, Catholics active on social media have been toiling in the shadows, often ignored, sometimes scorned, even by certain clergy. We're out there publishing, editing videos, answering questions, correcting errors, defending doctrine, denouncing attacks against the Church... all in a hostile, mocking, sometimes violently anti-Catholic world.
So, to see the Holy See finally organizing a jubilee specifically for those who work online is a real recognition. A way of saying: "What you do is important. You too are missionaries." And for me, who runs lecatho.fr and regularly publishes on YouTube to defend the Catholic faith, this is a gesture that matters.
The internet, as we know, is a battlefield. Between heresies, mockery, attacks against the Pope, dubious videos about unrecognized apparitions, celebrity priests spouting nonsense, progressive messages about "inclusion"... it's a true doctrinal desert. And yet, young people are searching for the truth there.
It is for them that we are there. To remind them what the Church is. To tell them that Tradition is not dead. To show them that Christ is not a marketing product, but the Savior of the world. And even if we are not perfect, even if we are sometimes clumsy, we try to do our part. Faithfully, simply, catholically.
I Will Not Go to Rome, But I Salute the Initiative
So no, personally, I do not plan to go to Rome for this jubilee. Not out of rejection, not out of criticism, simply because it is not in my plans. My work in security does not allow me to take a week of vacation.
But I think it is excellent that this event is taking place. May those who wish to participate go in a spirit of prayer, fraternity, and fidelity. And above all, may they not forget: this jubilee is not a reward, it is not a trophy. It is a grace. An opportunity to refocus on the essential. To confess one's faith, to purify one's intentions, and to set out again stronger, in truth.
The real challenge is to persevere. To not let oneself be consumed by the algorithm or narcissism. To continue to speak things clearly, with charity but without weakness. To proclaim Christ in His entirety, not a Jesus custom-made to please the world. And here, all those who are faithful in their corner, with ten followers or ten thousand, have their place.
So yes, this jubilee is a good thing. It is a beautiful mark of support. And it is also a reminder: our mission on the internet is not a trend. It is a vocation.
