Within the solemn setting of the Eternal City, the premiere of the episode titled The Last Supper, the fifth season of the series The Chosen, was held. This was a particularly special screening, as this advance premiere was hosted at the very heart of the Vatican, in the presence of certain members of the filming crew, including actress Elizabeth Tabish, who portrays Saint Mary Magdalene in the series.
When asked on this occasion, the actress shared her approach to interpreting this significant Gospel figure. Aware of the various opinions surrounding the figure of Mary Magdalene, she confided that she relied first and foremost on the sacred text, but also on the work of the screenwriters. They sought to bring out the humanity of this disciple of Christ, without falling into caricature. "She makes mistakes, she sometimes doubts herself… That is precisely what makes her so relatable to us," declared Elizabeth Tabish.
This new season focuses on the crucial moments preceding the Passion of Our Lord. The series thus continues its journey, with careful production quality and a keen sense of staging. Since its launch, The Chosen has enjoyed growing success, reaching millions of households worldwide. It is a modern way of bringing the Gospel narratives to the peripheries, while remaining faithful to the grandeur of the Christian mystery.
