On October 14th, the Vicariate for Youth of Buenos Aires celebrated a memorable day in honor of Blessed Carlo Acutis, a young Italian whose life is a true example of faith and devotion. This event, organized at Saint Luke's parish as part of University Pastoral Ministry, was marked by a Mass and a solidarity meal, where young people shared moments of fraternity with those in distressing situations.
The day began with a Mass presided over by Auxiliary Bishop Alejandro Pardo. This moment of prayer was an opportunity for the young people to gather around the Eucharist, reflecting the life of Carlo Acutis who always placed God at the center of his existence. In his homily, Bishop Pardo spoke of the joy of being young and disciples of Jesus, recalling that holiness is not a path reserved for a few, but a call for all.
The Three Pillars of Carlo's Life
At the end of the Mass, Father Pavoni shared his testimony about his relationship with Carlo Acutis. He highlighted three foundations of this future saint's life: the Eucharist, devotion to the Virgin Mary, and solidarity with the most needy.
The words of the Blessed, such as "Mary is the only woman in my life," testify to his unconditional love for the Holy Virgin. His daily commitment to praying the Rosary and his passion for the Eucharist, which he called his "autopista al cielo" (highway to heaven), make him a model for today's youth.
Carlo, even at a young age, showed exemplary faith. Introduced to the Catholic faith by his nanny, he quickly developed a passion for the sacraments, particularly the Eucharist. His desire to know God led him to study Eucharistic miracles around the world, a project that gave birth to a traveling exhibition.
Carlo's path was not without trials. At just 15 years old, he faced leukemia which took him prematurely. However, even in suffering, he knew how to keep a generous heart. At his funeral, many homeless people gathered to pay tribute to him, testifying to the kindness he had shown them, sharing his meal and his coat without his parents' knowledge.
Following Carlo's example, the young people then participated in adoration of the Blessed Sacrament. Nourished by this encounter with Jesus, they formed groups to go out into the area around Plaza Houssay and invite the homeless to share a meal. This act of charity was a beautiful illustration of the spirit of mutual aid and sharing that marked Carlo's life.
