Claudia Caneva, a professor at Roma Tre University, recently gave a presentation titled "Music and Satanism" as part of the course "Exorcism and Prayer of Liberation" in Rome, sponsored by the Pontifical Athenaeum Regina Apostolorum and the Italian Group for Socioreligious Research and Information.
A Concerning Influence
In an interview with ACI Prensa, Caneva warned about the influence of rock music and its subgenres such as heavy metal, death metal, or death rock on the behavior of young people. She asserts that these musical genres, produced by the adult cultural industry, can physically alter adolescents and that they often contain elements of demonic propagation.
Case Study: Davide Canotti
Caneva discussed the case of Davide Canotti, a former member of the Italian satanic sect "The Children of Satan." Questioned by police after desecrating cemeteries and stealing bones, Canotti claimed that his only "drug" was music, particularly black metal bands inciting the destruction of graves and crosses.
Young People, the Primary Victims
Caneva maintains that satanic music induces specific behaviors and negative emotions in young people. She also mentions that albums can contain subliminal invocations to Satan, although this does not inevitably mean demonic possession. However, she notes that many exorcisms are performed on people who have listened to this type of music.
The Fundamental Role of Parents
For Caneva, parents play a crucial role in the education and formation of young people. She insists on the necessity of open dialogue and raising awareness about the potentially negative effects of this music. Rather than banning this music, she advocates for working on young people's awareness of the possible negative consequences.

A Manipulative Industry
Caneva also criticizes the music industry and media for their role in promoting negative models and inciting destructive emotions. She asserts that the industry seeks to make young people desperate and manipulable. She concludes by recalling that Satanism manifests not only in music but also in exploitative and warlike behaviors.
Caneva warns against indifference, symbolized by Lucifer, the most beautiful of angels on the throne of ice, and emphasizes that this coldness is what the industry attempts to instill in the young.
